Pink's Hot Dogs is a landmark hot dog restaurant in the Hollywood district of the city of Los Angeles. Pink's was founded by Paul and Betty Pink in 1939 as a pushcart near the corner of La Brea and Melrose. The Great Depression was still having an impact on the country, and money was scarce. People could purchase a chili dog made with Betty's own chili recipe accompanied by mustard and onions on a steamed bun for 10 cents each. As business grew, thanks to Betty's chili and the custom-made Hoffy-brand hot dogs with their natural casings, so did Pink's. The family built the current building in 1946 at 709 North La Brea. Here in the Philippines, it's located at Shangri-la at The Fort, Bonifacio Global City. It arrived in Manila June of last year. This is said to be Pink's first international location. And because I've no idea as to when will I ever set foot in California, we headed to Shang. We ordered Hollywood legend and Tokyo dog plus fries and drinks. I took a bite of the beef hotdog first without fanfare to know what it's about. And yup, it's malasa, masarap. I then understood the hype. The service meanwhile was good. The servers were attentive like your glass of water (aside from the drinks you order) will never get half empty as they will replenish it for you. When someone's fork accidentally fell under the table, the attendant gave her a new set immediately. By the way, the fries? If ever there's french fries that stands out theirs must be that. That good.
