Books I Recommend: A Thousand Splendid Suns

My favorite lines from this book...
Like a compass needle that points north, a man's accusing finger always finds a woman. Always.

God's words will never betray you.

Women like us, we endure. And it's all we have.

You're afraid that I might find the happiness you never had.

Behind every trial and every sorrow that HE makes us shoulder, God has a reason.

She remembered nana saying once that each snowflake was a sigh heaved by an aggrieved woman somewhere in the world.

Surely you'll have many other chances.

A society has no chance of success if it's women are uneducated.

Of all the hardships a person has to face, none was more punishing than the simple act of waiting.

Boys treated friendship the way they treated the sun; its existence undisputed; its radiance best enjoyed, not beheld directly.

Some things I can teach you, some you learn from books but there are things that well, you just have to see and feel.

Tell your secrets to the wind, but don't blame it for telling the trees. -Kahlil Gibran

 Tariq: You're jealous
Laila: I'm indifferently curious
Tariq: You can't be both

The flip side of being spared was the agony of wondering who hadn't.
