Books I Recommend: The One & Only

I never thought I'd be interested to read a story of love between two people with decades of age-gap between them. I mean I've seen real pairs, I hear about them and somehow it works, their relationship works. Although I'm not privy to how theirs started, I've always pictured the start like how it blossomed as maybe too awkward, I don't know. But for me it is refreshing and new to take a peek about love this way because in the end, all is fair in love and war.

My favorite lines...

Every couple need at least one grown up.

It occurred to me that few things tell the story of a woman's life, like her closet.

Guys like girls they have to work for. Don't be a lobby ho.

Against all odds, i was finally in the club.

Fandom was one of the rare instances when parental (or even grandparental) allegiances trumped geography or whatever it was your friends were doing.

You have your strategy in place...but sometimes you can't micromanage.

Having a little crush was just the grown-up version of childhood hero worship.

But don't be fooled. The best things in life only seem simple.

Manners trump etiquette. In other words, you shouldn't put your elbows on the table, but it is far worse to point it out.

That boy's so rich he buys a new boat when he gets the other one wet.

You know in your heart when you're doing the right thing and when you're not. And you just have to do everything you can to stay the course.

Keep your eyes on the prize.

Cheating is black and white.

Sometimes there was no such thing as closure.

The more jealous a person is, the more he wants you to feel the same.

Sometimes you get the bear. And sometimes the bear gets you.

Make things perfect for your family, never mind your own feelings.

Motherhood has a way of bolstering your emotional reserves.

It's never black and white.

Shea: It's been a shit day. I'm in a fight with my mom. Lucy's not speaking to me. And I got fired.
Miller: (whistled and said) You're making my life look pretty damn good. Thank you.
Shea: Anytime.

Miller:You gotta go with love.
Shea: You think?
Miller: Every time.

Stick to your guns. Do what's right. Don't take the easy way out.
